Can I get a same-day grooming appointment?

Often, yes. Same-day appointments are one of the things WASH & WAG is known for around Old Mill Creek, and Josie regularly squeezes in walk-in style requests when the schedule allows. If your dog rolled in something or your cat needs a cleanup bath, call and ask. If there is a slot, she will take it.

What are your hours and where are you located?

We are at 39060 Main Street in Old Mill Creek, IL, open 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday. Give us a call at (847) 361-9653 to check availability before you head over, especially on weekends when slots fill quickly.

Do you groom cats as well as dogs?

Cats are welcome here, not an afterthought. Josie handles baths, brush-outs, nail trims, and gentle mat work for both long-haired and short-haired cats. Many cat parents from Lake Villa and Antioch bring their pets in regularly because cats get patient, unhurried handling, and most are ready to go home in about an hour and a half.

What should I expect at my pet's first grooming appointment?

First-timers get extra time and a slow introduction. Josie lets your pet sniff around, works at their pace, and keeps sessions short if a puppy or kitten seems nervous. She will also send you home with brushing tips so the next visit is even easier. Bring vaccination records if you have them handy.

Which areas do you serve?

Our shop sits in Old Mill Creek, and pet owners drive in from all over northern Lake County, including Lake Villa, Antioch, Lindenhurst, Gurnee, Grayslake, Round Lake Beach, Fox Lake, Waukegan, Zion, Libertyville, and Mundelein. Most folks are within a twenty-minute drive, and same-day slots make the trip worth it.

What payment methods do you accept?

We keep it simple: cash, check, Zelle, and Venmo. Sorry — no credit or debit cards. Payment is due when your pet is ready to go home, and no deposit is needed to book a standard appointment.

How do you handle anxious or elderly pets?

Patience is the whole approach here. Senior pets and nervous dogs get shorter handling periods, breaks when they need them, and quiet one-on-one attention instead of a conveyor-belt setup. Josie has worked with plenty of first-time and older pets, and she will tell you honestly if a relaxed, split-session visit suits your animal better.

Can you remove matted fur without shaving my dog?

Often we can. Josie works mats out gently by hand when the coat allows it, and she will only recommend a shorter cut when de-matting would cause pain or skin irritation. Before any clipping, she will show you what she found and agree on a plan, so there are no surprises when you pick up your pup.

Do you offer de-skunking and mess cleanup baths?

Yes, and those are usually same-day. If your dog got skunked on a walk or had an accident that home baths would not fix, call us. Josie uses coat-safe products that break down odor rather than covering it, and most cleanup pets are ready to go home the same afternoon, smelling like themselves again.
